about

The playing of the steel guitar was introduced into African American Holiness-Pentecostal praise music in the 1930s by Willie Eason, and it remains an essential instrument to this day. In addition to two tracks by Eason, this compilation features many of the important sacred steel guitar players including Aubrey Ghent, the Campbell Brothers Derick and Chuck, Glenn Lee and the Lee Boys, Sonny Treadway, and Calvin Cooke. Of particular note in this collection is Eason’s “rap” “Franklin D. Roosevelt, A Poor Man’s Friend.”
